Baby Food Pouches: How They Stay Fresh Without Preservatives
Our baby food pouches are filled, sealed and then sterilised inside the pack using retort technology. Because no air or bacteria can get in afterwards, an unopened pouch stays fresh for 12 months without any preservatives. Once you open it, treat it like home-cooked food: squeeze the portion you need into a clean bowl, refrigerate the rest, and use it within 24 hours. Leftovers can be frozen in a clean BPA-free ice cube tray. See How Are Infant Foods in Pouches Made? for the full process, and browse all nine grain, fruit and vegetable purees.
Instant Baby Food, Without the Shortcuts
"Instant" should mean quick for you, not a long list of additives for your baby. Here, instant means no cooking for purees and yogurt melts, and 2 minutes on the stove for porridge. Read the label on any instant baby food and check for added sugar, salt, maltodextrin, flavours and preservatives. For example, Wheaty Ragi porridge lists its ingredients with percentages: ragi and wheat flour, dates powder, banana powder, skim milk powder and cardamom. The sweetness comes from dates and banana, and the pack states no added sugar or salt. It contains wheat and milk, so check the label if your baby has an allergy.
Readymade Baby Food vs Homemade
Homemade food is wonderful, and readymade baby food is not meant to replace it. It fills the gaps: busy weekdays, travel, a new ingredient you do not want to cook a whole batch of, or a day when your baby simply needs a meal now. Many parents use both. Our guides on how ready-to-feed baby food can help busy parents and why your baby needs more than just rice and dal explain where each fits, and our baby food recipes cover the homemade side. Every product lists its ingredients, and our lab reports are public.
Ready-to-Eat Baby Food by Age
- From 6 months: start with a mild fruit or vegetable puree, one new food at a time with three days between each, so you can spot any reaction.
- As meals get bigger: add grain purees and porridge mixes for thicker, more filling meals.
- From 8 months: offer yogurt melts as a first finger food to practise picking up and self-feeding.
- Toddlers and older kids: purees work as a quick snack squeezed over yogurt or stirred into pancake batter.
Most babies are ready for solids around 6 months, once they can sit with support and show interest in food, but check with your paediatrician first. Our First Year Feeding Guide and How Much Food Does Your Baby Need? cover timing and portions.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is ready-to-eat baby food? +
Ready-to-eat baby food is cooked, packed and ready to serve with little or no preparation. Rorosaur's purees come in sealed pouches that you open and serve, yogurt melts need no prep at all, and porridge mixes are ready in 2 minutes. All are made for babies from 6 months, with yogurt melts from 8 months.
Is readymade baby food safe and healthy for babies? +
Yes, readymade baby food can be a healthy part of your baby's diet when the ingredient list is short and the product has no added sugar or preservatives. Check that the age on the pack suits your baby, and talk to your paediatrician about when to start solids. Rorosaur lists every ingredient with its percentage and publishes lab reports.
What are baby food pouches and how do I use them? +
Baby food pouches are sealed, ready-to-eat purees that you squeeze into a bowl and spoon-feed. Squeeze out only what your baby will eat, so the rest of the pouch stays clean. Our purees have a thicker Stage 2 texture, so you can stir in a little breast milk, formula or warm water to thin them. To warm one, stand the pouch in warm water, and never microwave it.
How can baby food pouches last 12 months without preservatives? +
Baby food pouches last 12 months because the food is sterilised inside the sealed pouch using retort technology. No air or bacteria can get in afterwards, so no preservative is needed. Once opened, refrigerate the pouch and use it within 24 hours. How Are Infant Foods in Pouches Made? explains the process in full.
What is the best instant baby food? +
The best instant baby food is quick for you but simple inside: a short ingredient list, no added sugar and no preservatives. Rorosaur purees need no cooking, yogurt melts need no prep, and porridge mixes like Wheaty Ragi take 2 minutes with water. Always read the label for added sugar, salt, maltodextrin and flavours.
Do you deliver readymade baby food across India? +
Yes, we deliver readymade baby food across India, with free shipping on orders above ₹598. Orders are processed within 24 hours and usually arrive in 3 to 5 business days. You will receive a tracking link by email or SMS once your order is dispatched. See the shipping policy for details.
At what age can I start ready-to-eat baby food? +
Most babies are ready for ready-to-eat baby food from around 6 months, once they can sit with support and show interest in food. Purees and porridge mixes suit babies from 6 months, and yogurt melts from 8 months. Introduce one new food at a time, wait three days before the next, and check with your paediatrician first.
How long does ready-to-eat baby food last once opened? +
Once opened, keep a puree pouch in the fridge and use it within 24 hours, because there are no preservatives. You can also freeze leftovers in a clean BPA-free ice cube tray and thaw them in the fridge overnight. Unopened pouches are shelf-stable for 12 months and do not need refrigeration.
Which ready-to-eat baby food is best for travel? +
Our pouches are a good choice for travel because they are shelf-stable and need no refrigeration until opened. The Travel Baby Food Pack has 6 purees and 2 yogurt melts, and pouches are generally allowed in carry-on luggage as baby food, though it is worth checking your airline's policy.
Are Rorosaur baby food pouches organic? +
Rorosaur is 100% natural baby food made from whole grains, dals, fruits and vegetables, with no added sugar and no preservatives. Every ingredient is listed on the pack, and our lab reports are published.
