All four mixes come in 240 g packs with a 12-month shelf life. To prepare, cook 2 scoops of powder with the required amount of water for 2 minutes, cool to a feeding temperature and serve. Check each product page for the full ingredient and allergen list before you serve.

Baby Cereal at 6 Months: When and How to Start

Most babies are ready for solids around 6 months, when they can sit with support and show interest in food. A smooth cereal or porridge is a common first meal in India because it is easy to swallow and easy to digest. Start with a small amount and let your baby set the pace.

  • Introduce one new mix at a time and wait 2 to 3 days before the next, so you can spot any reaction.
  • Start with a thin, smooth consistency and thicken it slowly as your baby gets used to it.
  • Cereal is one part of the day. Add fruit and vegetable purees, then yogurt, as your baby grows.
  • Talk to your paediatrician before starting solids, especially if there is a family history of allergies.

For a full week-by-week plan, read our first-year feeding guide, and see how much food your baby needs for portion sizes by age.

How to Choose the Best Baby Cereal in India

There is no single best baby cereal, but these checks help you compare brands fairly:

  1. Read the first ingredients. Grains and pulses should come first. If sugar, glucose or maltodextrin is near the top, look elsewhere.
  2. Check for added sugar. Sweetness can come from fruit and dates, which are whole foods, instead of added sugar.
  3. Look for variety. A mix of grains and pulses, such as ragi, sorghum, moong and masoor, gives a broader range of nutrients than a single grain.
  4. Match the age. Confirm the pack says 6 months and above, and check the allergen line.
  5. Ask for proof. Lab reports show the product was tested. See ours on the lab reports page.

Ragi Cereal and Ragi Porridge for Babies

Ragi (finger millet) is a traditional first grain in Indian homes and a staple of South Indian baby feeding. It is gluten-free by itself and cooks into a smooth porridge. If you are searching for ragi malt for babies, what you want is a cooked, smooth ragi porridge rather than a sweet malt drink. Wheaty Ragi Mix blends ragi with wheat, dates and banana, so it needs no added sugar. Because it contains wheat and skim milk powder, check allergens first. For a ragi-led option without wheat or milk, see the Millety Pumpkin Mix, which includes ragi alongside rice, sorghum, moong and masoor.

Rice Cereal, Millet Porridge and Sago: How They Compare

  • Rice cereal. Rice is gentle and easy to digest, which is why baby rice cereal is a classic first food. On its own it is mostly starch, so pair it with pulses. Rice-O-Lentils and Spinachy Grains use rice flour as 40% of the grain blend, with equal moong flour and sorghum.
  • Millet porridge. Millets such as ragi, jowar (sorghum) and bajra (pearl millet) are traditional and more varied than rice alone. Our Millety Pumpkin Mix uses ragi, sorghum, rice, moong and masoor. We do not currently make a bajra (pearl millet) porridge.
  • Sago porridge. Sago (sabudana) is almost pure starch with very little protein or other nutrients. It can be an occasional food, but it should not be your baby's main cereal. We do not make a sago product.

Health Mix for Babies: Why a Multigrain Blend Works

A traditional health mix (often called sattu or sathu maavu) combines several grains and pulses, so your baby gets a wider range of nutrients than a single-grain cereal. Our Millety Pumpkin Mix follows this idea, with rice, ragi, sorghum, moong and masoor, plus pumpkin, banana and dates. It is ready in 2 minutes, with no roasting, grinding or sieving at home.

Cereal for Toddlers and Older Kids

Searching for kids cereal? Our mixes are made and labelled for babies 6 months and older, so they also suit toddlers who still enjoy porridge. As your child grows, offer thicker porridge, stir in a fruit or vegetable puree, or serve it alongside yogurt melts and soft finger foods.

Ways to Serve Baby Porridge

  • Make it with water as per the pack, then cool before serving.
  • Stir in a spoon of fruit and veg puree, such as Sweet Potato Apple, for extra flavour.
  • Serve the savoury mixes as a khichdi-style meal, and the sweet mixes as breakfast.
  • Carry the Porridge Travel Pack sachets when you travel. The small sachets are easy to pack.
  • For more ideas, see our recipes page.

What to Feed Along With Baby Cereal

Cereal works best as part of a mix of foods. Add healthy baby purees and grain-based purees for variety, browse ready-to-eat baby food for busy days, and read about when to start purees if you are unsure about timing. When your baby starts to self-feed, mealtime milestones has tips.
